Lord Howe Island offers all of that and more.. It's been our home away from home for the past seven years!

Lord Howe Island is a stunning and unique place located approximately 600 kilometres east of the Australian mainland. This UNESCO World Heritage-listed island is renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty, diverse ecosystems, and rich history. With its majestic mountains, lush forests, and pristine beaches, Lord Howe Island offers an idyllic retreat for families seeking adventure, relaxation, and quality time together.

Guy and I have been escaping to this place since 2018, and it was only recently that we began bringing the girls along for family holidays. We truly cherish our time here, as it allows us to disconnect from the hectic city life and reconnect with nature. The kids can roam freely on foot or by bike, as there is no car traffic. The air is fresh, and the food is wholesome.

The most exciting aspect is discovering the beauty of the ocean life.

You can enjoy scuba diving and snorkeling in the pristine waters in the area. The coral reefs near Lord Howe Island are full of colourful fish and diverse marine life, providing a captivating underwater experience. Swimming with turtles and exploring the coral reef are a must while on the island. This is the southernmost section of the Great Barrier Reef, offering a unique experience.

We are so lucky to have it so close to Sydney!

Climbing Mt Gower

One of our favourite activities on the island is hiking the famous Mount Gower, an amazing place known for its breathtaking views and challenging and steep trails. As you ascend, you will encounter diverse flora and fauna, including rare bird species and unique plant life that thrive in this pristine environment. Local guides will stop and talk about this along the trail.

Highly recommend. Guy and I have done it three times. It's an excellent test of fitness and skills, requiring the use of a rope to ascend and descend steep and slippery terrain.

I have even done a speed ascent with a local female guide and it was fantastic preparation for my other mountain adventures that year.

In addition to outdoor activities, Lord Howe Island offers various accommodations. From cozy lodges to self-contained apartments, families or individuals can choose a setting that suits their needs while being close to the island's attractions.
