The Covid year in Sydney resulted in the closure of gyms and allowed only one-on-one outdoor gym sessions. This was similar to the situation in 2020, and Australia and New Zealand enforced some of the strictest measures during COVID.
In early April 2021, I experienced a severe fall in the mountains, resulting in a significant injury. I was unable to run for five months.
During that time, I started working with @pkperformance on FMS (functional movement assessment) and Pete introduced me to Functional Strength Movement with Kettlebells
Sydney was still going through Covid time on and off and Pete and I mostly trained outdoors which I truly enjoyed.
Dr Wood, my sports doctor has healed my 4cm proximal hamstring tear with sprinting at 60% and Pete’s strength sessions complimented this workload.
I was back to run-walk September that year.
Pete and I then started my Aconcagua training protocol for 2022-23 season and I have successfully summited 6962m / 23000 ft expedition style, carrying 30kg backpack the entire time.
Most of the work and sets came from StrongFirst and there are a few articles on StrongFirst site re
Walking snatches prep that I did and general Kettlebells Approach to Endurance prep for high altitude.
If you are looking for something different to your regular gym work or in addition to your routine, I highly recommend learning the KB fundamentals!
Simple, practical and effective.
My gym at home is purely a set of kettlebells now and I still practice my Turkish get ups, farmers carry’s and squats; and my girls are getting into kettlebells carrys and squats for gymnastics.
Stay Strong 💪🏼🤍
Tough times don’t last but tough people do. 🖤
