List of Adventures & Prep for A360 Speed Ascent 2019 - 2025

My plan was far from flawless; it was merely a combination of consistency, strong work ethic, adaptability, and a firm belief in myself. In many respects, I was driven by a desire to improve each year. It was the gradual progress over time that made a difference.

I'm certainly not the most talented or the quickest runner—in fact, quite the opposite!

But I showed up every day with enthusiasm: to learn, to do the work, and to get better.

I also personally believed that success is not linear and it certainly isn't a goal to be reached. "It's a system to be improved" as suggested by James Clear, Atomic Habits, where he goes on to say: "The secret to getting results that last is to never stop making improvements."

  2. Started running & training with my running coach: Matty Abel, for my first climb of Aconcagua 6962m scheduled for January 2020.

    4. my first 5k event ~21 min (September)

    5. Mt Feathertop, Mt Buffalo and Mt Hotham 100km in 3 days (November): AUSTRALIA

    1. Summit of Aconcagua via Normal Side in 7 days (January): ARGENTINA

    2. Aconcagua360 (January), 1st attempt: ARGENTINA

    3. Ice-climbing trip at Blue Lake Kosciusko (September): AUSTRALIA

    4. Ultra-Trail Australia UTA22 (October): AUSTRALIA

    5. Strength training with Mel Bejeski


  4. Switched to shorter distance (5k and some speed training); squad training (COVID year); AUSTRALIA

    1. 5k in March

    2. 5k in May

    3. Injury for 6 months

    4. Coastal Run 30km (December)

    5. Strength training with Pete at PK Performance (kettlebells)


  5. Training for Aconcagua360 with Matty Abel

    1. 30km coastal run in May: AUSTRALIA

    2. SkyRace UTMB 30km: SLOVENIA

    3. Solo Speed ascent of Mt Triglav in 12 hours: SLOVENIA

    4. Successful Summit of Aconcagua 6962 via 360 route (December): ARGENTINA

    5. Attempted Aconcagua360 for timing only, weather conditions didn't allow for a full speed ascent (January) ARGENTINA

  7. No running coach, just a big picture approach and general coaching by Martin Zhor, Uphill Athlete. I followed a running plan from the previous year that worked for me (with full house renovation, a full home rebuild for 18 months, I had a lot going on so I chose to minimise the stress of working with another coach daily & followed a plan from 2023)

    1. Climb of Mt Aspiring 90km RT: NEW ZEALAND

    2. Blue Mountains 30km, 50km, 72km, and 86km: AUSTRALIA

    3. Strength training with Conor H. link


  8. Aconcagua360 Speed Ascent Successfully completed: ARGENTINA
